Life is Good_Liberty Aug. 2008

The other half of the cat equation, this is Liberty. We adopted her from PetSmart on the 4th of July holiday, thus her name. She had been at the store for 4+ weeks, which we knew because we often stopped by to see the kitties, while we were awaiting word on our lost kitty, Greeley. We were not in the market to adopt an animal because we really hoped Greeley would be found. I guess something made us accept the realization that Greeley would sadly, probably not be coming found, as we live in a wild open area with a lot of hunting wildlife. This large soft white cat sidled up to us from her cage and uttered a friendly meow, so we decided to take her out to pet her---and that was all there was to be said. She endeared herself to us right then and we ended up taking her home. We had never had a female kitty before, nor a white one, and I so loved the tuxedo-colored cats like most of the cats we'd had before, but how could we resist this incredibly soft, white cat who was so friendly to strangers? When the store person was bringing her out for us to take home, she told us that she and the other store people were sorry to see this cat leave because she was such a lovely kitty---the favorite of the store! We knew then that we were getting a real gem of a pet and that's exactly what she has become for us. Even the grandkids love her and she always comes out to greet them and be around them when they spend the night at our house. WELCOME LIBERTY ! (named for Lady Liberty because we got her on Independence Day weekend.)

Just Chillin_first day home

About July 16 2008, we had been visiting Marybeth. She knew of the disappearance of our Greeley, and mentioned that she and Fitz had seen a cat that looked just like Greeley over at Pet Smart in Park Meadows. We decided to stop in just to take a look, not intending to take in another pet for awhile, but as fate would have it, we were smitten and ended up bringing 2-yr. old "Oscar" home with us, whom re renamed Reagan. What a lovely little cat. We marveled at how well he traveled and didn't seem the least bit worried or fearful during the long drive home. We even left the box open on my lap and watched him as he perched his front paws on the edge of the box to watch the scenery rolling by and stare at his new owners. He didn't cower nor try to jump out of the box. What a love! The moment we got home and released him from the box, He explored the upper house , introduced himself to our other new kitty, and promptly went downstairs. A few minutes later, Bob went to find him and see how he was aclimating. He called me to come see Reagan and quick, bring the camera. When I got to the bathroom, this is what I saw: Reagan "nested" in the sink! He looked so cute and I snapped this picture before he decided to jump down and continue his exploration. I'm so glad I got this shot, because he never perched in a sink again, but it has become my favorite photo of him.

Levity entry: These are not animals that live, nor do they strictly belong with pets, but I liked this (card) and they are animals for the sake of an animal blog. I sent it to Robert as an email card I made for his birthday.

This is the poster I made up for the "Lost Cat" report and for the bulletin boards, etc. I think these photos give some idea of his gentle loving personality. Miss you, little "fur-friend".
This is Greeley whom we adopted from the shelter in February 2006. He was already about 2 years old and a really sweet kitty. He immediately endeared himself to us. But with his lively curiosity, it was bound to happen that he would one day slip out of the house and wander , refusing to hear our call. That is what happened on Father's Day 2008 when our little Makinsey spent the weekend and went out to play, leaving the door open. We have not seen Greeley since, even though we posted reports in the lost and found at the Shelter, on bulletin boards, and on posters in the neighborhood. It is November at this posting, and my heart still breaks for this loveable little cat. Greeley we still miss you. We never got to say goodbye. . . . :*(

Reagan's first day home_meets Miss Liberty_July 2008

My favorite pic of Reagan--in the sink. First day we brought him home, he dashed around the house and we found him "nested" in the bathroom sink, so I snapped this photo. He never sought the sink out again. Here is Liberty introducing herself to him in a friendly submissive roll over. She looks so cute in that pose. This was July 11th 2008. We'd been visiting Marybeth and she told us she and Fitz had seen a cute kitty at PetSmart in Park Meadows, like our Greeley, who had wandered away June 15th, never to return. We grew fond of him at first sight and took him home that afternoon.

Breezy_in Memoriam_2007

Breezy was the little kitty adopted by Marybeth & Fitz after he was found abandoned on the property adjacent to theirs. He had survived several weeks alone, expecting his "people" to come home, but they had moved away. Breezy spent many years in his comfortable home with MB & F. before he became ill in 2007 and died. He was a gentle cat, rather kept to himself after his survival ordeal, but got along with the other cat of the house.
This is a memorial to his joy-giving life that I made for Marybeth & Fitz. This was Marybeth's favorite picture of him. This was "Breezy's basket". He napped curled up in it daily. From his basket on a ledge near the stairs, he could survey all the goings-on of the household. Breezy, we miss you. Snoopy "Ace of Paws"_2006

Snoopy, beloved dog of Brian & Julie and Makinsey & Travis. Raised from a puppy, he is a good and faithful companion--gentle to all---and an enthusiastic "greeter". Gave him his own deck of cards with whimsical twist of cats in the background and "Aces of Paws" as the suits.
